Abstract: Pharmacovigilance is an emerging discipline that encompases several vital issues concerning safe and rational use of drugs and pharmaceuticals. In view of the huge annual inflow of patients running into lakhs in number, use of large quantities of prescription and non-prescription products and paucity of any drug information services at Sheri-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, a tertiary care centre at Srinagar (J&K), establishment of an in-house pharmacovigilance centre there becomes inevitable. Such an endeavour will further help in knowing more about the drug utilization patterns at SKIMS and adverse drug reaction profiles among Kashmiri population. Various prospects, constraints and perspectives related to this endeavour are discussed.
