Abstract: The dissertation is divided into six chapters. The Chapter I is devoted to the conceptual framework. The Chapter II brings to light the leading features of the Jammu and Kashmir economy. The Chapter III highlights the role of public sector in economic development. The Chapter IV pinpoints short comings of the state wage policy. The Chapter V is devoted to the study of the wage structure of workers of an important public sector industrial units, viz the Govt. of India woolen Mills,(Shirin Bagh, Srinagar). The chapter highlights various aspects of the wage structure such as impact of prevailing wages on standard of living and efficiency of the workers and profitability. The Chapter VI gives summary and conclusion.
