Abstract: The study contains a comparative study of spermatogonial mitosis, meiosis, chromosome number and their structure in twelve fishes of Kashmir. These twelve fishes belong to four families and three orders of class teleostomi. Eight of them are : schizothorax esocinus, Oreinus plagiestomus, Cyprinus carpip specularis, cuprinus carpio communis, Lu Labeo dero, puntius conchonius and crossochilus lateus diplochillus Kashmirensis and Botia birdi belong to the two fishes Nemachilus Kashmirensis and to the family Salmonidae and the last one Gambusia affinis holbrokii belongs to the family toecillidae. One chapter is devoted to familiarity of fish chromosomes. The numerical and morphological features of the chromosomes are tabulated. Various stages of the annual gonidial cycle in the 12 fishes are studied. It is found that various stages of the gonidial cycle and spawning periods differ.
