Title: Angiographic profile of coronary artery disease in Kashmir region.

Abstract: Background: Coronary artery disease has emerged as a major epidemic in developing countries like India with limited available data in our setting. Objectives: We sought to determine the clinical, risk factor and angiographic profile of the patients with coronary artery disease. Methods: The clinical and angiographic profile of 200 patients was prospectively analysed. Risk factors like smoking, hypertension, diabetes, obesity and dyslipidemia were also studied. Results: Of the 200 patients studied, 176 were males and 24 females. The mean age of study group was 57.8±11.0 (57.6±11.4 for males and 59.7±7.6 for females). Acute myocardial infarction was the most common indication for coronary angiography in 39% cases. Smoking was the commonest risk factor 73.5% followed by hypertension 65.5% and diabetes in 23.5%. Single vessel disease was most common occurring (56%) followed by double vessel disease and triple vessel disease 34.5% and 9.5% respectively. Left anterior descending artery was the most commonly involved vessel 57.1%. Left main coronary artery was involved in 8 patients and coronary calcification was seen in 23 patients. Right coronary artery was dominant in 87%. Increase in the frequency of multi-vessel disease was seen with increase in the number of risk factor (P value <0.046). Conclusions: There is increasing trend of coronary artery disease in subjects with risk factors like smoking, hypertension, diabetes and dyslipidemia. Single vessel disease is more frequent in our setting. Triple vessel disease is more frequently encountered in subjects with multiple risk factors like hypertension, smoking, diabetes and dyslipidemia.
